I would rotate the texure so the grain follows the length of the item. Not only will this look better, but it will be more realistic. In real life, if you wanted to get a long handle with the grain in this direction, you would need to find a tree that is as wide as your handle is long, and carve it aaaaall the way through ;) this would also make the handle way more fragile.

That's such a good point haha, I think I got caught up with the handle wrapping and just repeated that pattern (incorrectly) - will fix!

The direction of the wood grain feels incoherent. Here, we can clearly see the UV seam, and it leads to weird interactions where the grain completely changes direction.
